HOW TO COOK ADOBONG SALAGUBANG OR JUNE BEETLE
Adobong Salagubang or also know as “Ug Og” “Abal Abal”, June Beetle or June Bug is a popular Filipino exotic food.
Eating bugs could combat obesity. They are considered highly nutritional; the majority of them are rich in protein, healthy fats, iron, and calcium, and low in carbohydrates. According to Rumpold and Schlüter insects like Bugs are generally rich in riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and biotin.
ADOBONG SALAGUBANG OR JUNE BEETLE
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 lb. fresh Salagubang or June Beetle
- 2 tbsps. soy sauce
- 4 tbsps. vinegar
- 1 tbsp. oyster sauce (optional)
- ¼ cup water
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 pcs. tomato slice
- 1 large white onion, finely chopped
- 3 pcs. red Thai chili
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 3 tbsps. cooking oil
HOW TO COOK
- Clean the Salagubang or June Beetle. Remove the feet and wings and Wash thoroughly under running water.
- Heat the cooking oil in a medium-sized saucepan. Sauté the garlic and onion until translucent and add the tomato.
- Add the June Beetle and lightly stir fry
- Add soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional) and red Thai chili (optional).
- Add vinegar and water, and bring to a simmer.
- Cook for about 5 minutes or until the Salagubang or June Beetle is cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the Salagubang or June Beetle adobo in a serving dish and serve with hot steamed rice. Enjoy!
